Friday Sept 16 Peaceful, Silent Vigil for peace in Ukraine. held in Palo Alto CA, USA

This peaceful silent vigil for an end to the war in Ukraine, first by a cease fire; arms deliveries from other nations to be halted; the immediate and total withdrawal of all Russian troops, advisors, military and non-military advisors; UN negotiation for a Treaty to end the war, and return of all of sovereign Ukraine's territory before the Russian invasion; presence of UN Peacekeepers to ensure the peace; and a neutral Ukraine with respect to NATO membership as part of the Treaty. All Ukraine citizens who fled from the hostilities to be re-patriated and their Ukraine passports restored.  World Court adjudication of charges of war crimes and restitution of property;.  Resumption of diplomatic agreements between Ukraine and Russia.

In Palo Alto, CA, the site of our silent vigil is on the public sidewalk at the corners of El Camino Real and Embarcadero, without blocking pedestrian or vehicular traffic.  Assemble  on the public sidewalk peacefully, in front of the large sign at the corner for Town & Country Village shopping center (no assembly between the sign and the curved stone wall behind it - no display of signs on the property of the shopping center, only at the corner) at 855 El Camino Real, Palo Alto, CA 94301 (map your route to the intersection of El Camino and Embarcadero). We have some signs to share but encourage your own respectful signs.  No chanting or music (amplified or otherwise) as this is a Quaker-style silent vigil where our signs "speak" for us. Vigilers to remain on the sidewalk and not obstruct pedestrian or vehicular traffic.

We vigil every Friday (weather permitting) from noon-1 on a variety of issues. The peaceful, silent vigils are organized by the women and men of the local Peninsula/Palo Alto Women's Intl. League for Peace and Freedom, established in Palo Alto/Peninsula in 1922, and US partners since 2017 with the Poor People's Campaign.  WILPF was founded in 1915 in the Hague, Netherlands, and  members formed peaceful delegations to the warring and neutral countries during WW I to seek a negotiated peace.  In addition to being against war, we are against nuclear weapons and as our partner, the PPC, for an end to poverty, racism, militarism, devastation of our planet by unchecked climate change, and against the false narrative of religious nationalism. We are non-violent. Our US WILPF website: wilpfus.org.  Our branch email: [email protected].
